I am Nusrat Chowdhury, a structural engineer with fourteen years on residential and commercial projects in Bangladesh. I do design, review and seismic retrofit work, and I sign what I check.
About Nusrat Chowdhury
I trained as a civil engineer at BUET and spent my first six years on site with a contractor, which is the best education a designer can get. You learn quickly which clever detail nobody can actually build. Since 2017 I have run my own practice. Most of the work is structural design for six to twelve storey residential buildings, plus safety assessment of older buildings that owners want to extend or convert. I also do seismic retrofit design, which has become a bigger part of the work since the 2020 code update. I do not sign drawings I have not checked myself, and I do not take a project where the timeline only works if the checking is skipped. That loses me some jobs. It has also meant fourteen years without a structural failure on anything I have stamped.
